Debasement of the MAS

Debasement of the MAS

The MAS came to power like no other political party in Bolivia’s history. A 53.7 percent of votes gave him the authority to transform and promote the country, but that wealth was wasted, as is being the 55% with which Luis Arce won the 2020 elections.

The project was born as a promise of inclusion, of nationalization of natural resources, of government of the people and for the people. However, 17 years later, several indigenous groups, especially from the lowlands, feel discriminated against and are displaced from their territories. Gas, which was the main natural resource, is running out and barely enough to supply the domestic market, while the country fails to meet commitments with other markets such as Brazil and Argentina.

The Government of the MAS stopped listening to the people, haughty in a tower called Casa Grande del Pueblo, only murmurs are heard and there are blindfolded eyes that do not see reality or listen to the citizen who has his own free ideas, who does not bow his head.

The project of the Political Instrument of the Peoples, which was born within the COB to give political participation to the unions, is now mired in an internal fight, whose missiles are damaging the country. The criticism of the Evista wing against the Government escalated to levels that had not been seen, such as that within the same party there are accusations of drug traffickers, corrupt and thieves against ministers of State, with returns of the same caliber.

It is a toxic relationship, because the internal fissures reached extremes, while there is a kind of desperation to maintain the parliamentary majority that was already in danger during the approval of the General State Budget. Sources from the Casa Grande del Pueblo itself reveal that the president is terrified of the idea that the Evista wing and the opposition come together to approve a recall referendum against him and that, finally, they will remove him from the Government.

Members of the National Council for the Defense of Democracy (Conade) and the opposition suggest that the violent capture and subsequent sending of Governor Luis Fernando Camacho to the Chonchocoro prison has been an action to iron out the rough edges in the MAS and try to start a year with not so troubled waters between renovators and radicals; a war trophy that allows them to recover the lost unit.

The objective of power was more than disrespect for a people and their elected authority, given the way in which he was detained, even violating a resolution that prevented the execution of urgent warrants during judicial vacation and organizing an operation in the style of the most harsh dictatorships known in the 70s and 80s.

In this context, a very hard year begins for Bolivia, much more than what the population expected. Added to the economic uncertainty that a scenario with less growth, more indebtedness and less public investment projects, is the concern about a confrontational political and social scenario, in the midst of government threats against the Santa Cruz leadership, disguising as justice what it is called repression and political persecution.

The MAS began as a project that could transform Bolivia, but in the course of 17 years that it has been in power, it has been degraded with many acts of corruption, lack of control at the borders and in the lands that are taken by groups financed by mafias. organized, with internal wars that do not allow the national authorities to project a better Bolivia, but instead use the entire country to serve petty desires to prolong themselves in power.
