Follow the break within the Christian Democracy. Although, strictly speaking, this time it is DC senators against former militants Ximena Rincón and Matías Walker.
The origin of the controversy is a request from the latter to join the committee of senators of the DC, but as independents, because they are no longer Falangist militants, but now lead their own party, called “Democrats.” However, said request was rejected by the current members of the committee.
In a letter, sent by the committee of DC senators to the secretary of the Upper House, Raúl Guzmán, it is read that the request issued by Rincón and Walker “is politically incompatible with our convictions and having both renounced the Christian Democrats, it becomes impossible incorporate them into a common job, even more so when it is public knowledge that they are currently being President and Vice President of a political party in formation”.
As a result of this, they believe that “being on the same Committee is inconvenient, for which reason we have decided not to accept your request.”
In this line, they request the Secretary to “certify that according to the Senate regulations there is no agreement in the DC Committee to accept as members the Independent Senators Rincón and Walker in its conformation, and therefore, all steps are taken administrative decisions that establish that in the immediate future, the DC Committee will continue only with Senators who are members of the party and with Senator Yasna Provoste Campillay as Head of the same”.

One of those mentioned, Senator Walker, said this day that “without any desire to enter into controversy, we have been notified today of this letter, through which I and Senator Rincón are expelled from the committee that we form party”, for which they will make the “disclaimers at the committee meeting. What is arranged by the table is that this issue goes to the committee, because this can have administrative effects and political effects that I am interested in that can be discussed in that instance ”.
Walker’s complaint was answered by DC Senator Yasna Provoste – after UDI Iván Moreira asked to clarify what the term “expel” means – who pointed out that the Democrats’ request “is incompatible with our convictions, given that both They have already renounced the Christian Democracy (…). It is much clearer that it is incompatible, that they can integrate, I think they are absolutely different words.”
