"Data kills stories"Heber said of the crime figures

The Minister of the Interior, Louis Albert Hebersaid that the figures of the crimes presented on Tuesday by the Ministry of the Interior “they are obviously better”like the current security policy, in reference to governments of the Broad Front.

“The numbers say that in 2019 there was more robbery, more theft and more cattle rustling. In 2022 there is less robbery, less theft and less cattle rustling,” Heber said at a press conference this Thursday. He also added: “In front of these data there are stories. And the data kills stories”.

The minister criticized that opposition politicians complain about the crime figures and reminded them of the situations of previous governments of the Broad Front.

the homicides increased 39.2% in the first half of 2022if compared with the same period of the previous year, according to the figures that the Ministry of the Interior presented this Tuesday. In the first half of 2022 there were 188 homicides, compared to 135 in 2021.

In the same comparison, complaints of theft grew 2.4% compared to the first half of 2021, as did domestic violence (11.1%); on the other hand, reports of robbery (1.7%) and cattle rustling (11.6%) decreased.
