The dictatorship of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo hoped that the president of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, would be rescued alive from the helicopter accident he suffered, along with a delegation, on Sunday, May 19.
«We trust in God that this dramatic and tragic situation will be resolved with the rescue, safety and life of the president, the chancellor and his entire entourage. Meanwhile, we continue praying and in permanent communication with the invariable affection between our twin revolutions,” reads the first communication from the Nicaraguan dictatorship to the supreme leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

After confirming that the president of Iran, his chancellor and a high-level delegation died, the Ortega and Murillo regime issued a “message of condolences” to the Iranian authorities and the relatives of the fatal victims of the plane crash.
“We wholeheartedly accompany your pain in these tragic circumstances left by the physical departure of the President Ebrahim Raisifrom Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian… and the entire entourage that accompanied this delegation,” highlights the second official note from the Nicaraguan dictatorship for its ally Iran.
Ortega and Murillo expressed their “love, prayers and solidarity” in these moments of “sadness in fraternal union.” “God our Lord will alleviate this affliction, and the spiritual strength of the Iranian authorities and brothers will make them move forward and continue fighting the necessary battles for justice and peace,” the document mentions.
The helicopter crash
The Bell 212 helicopter in which Raisi was traveling disappeared on Sunday afternoon while flying over a mountainous region of Iran in difficult weather conditions, with rain and dense fog.
In addition to the president and the Foreign Minister, the governor of the province of East Azerbaijan, the main imam of the region, the president’s security chief and three crew members were traveling on the plane.

This Monday, rescuers recovered the bodies of the passengers, who were taken to Tabriz, a large city in the northwest, the Red Crescent said.
Considered ultra-conservative, Raisi was elected on June 18, 2021 in the first round of elections marked by a record abstention for presidential elections and the absence of a significant opposition. Always dressed in a turban and a long black religious coat, Raisi succeeded the moderate Hassan Rohani.
The late president had the support of the main authority, Ayatollah Khamenei, who on Sunday sent a message of calm to the population and assured that the event was not going to cause “any disturbance.”
