Daniel Ortega removes his ambassador in Slovakia

The administration of Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo made official the departure of Tatiana Daniela García Silva as Nicaragua’s ambassador to the Slovak Republic as “concurrent, based in the city of Berlin, Federal Republic of Germany.” Through Presidential Agreement 70-2023 published in La Gaceta No. 102 of this Friday, June 9, 2023, the dismissal of the Ortega diplomat was consummated.

García Silva held the position in the European country since April 10, 2019, as stated in Presidential Agreement 49-2019. The dismissal of the diplomat occurred on June 5, but until this Friday it became official.

Currently, the Ortega official is Nicaragua’s ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany and has held that position since 2019.

Tatiana García Silva has provided technical follow-up to cooperation projects at the Nicaraguan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex), as well as deputy director of the Minrex Ceremonial and Protocol Directorate, head of the Minrex Youth Participation Directorate, head of the Directorate of North America in the Minrex and as General Manager of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (AHK Nicaragua) in Managua.

The diplomat also served as Managua’s ambassador to Turkey, as a “concurrent, based in the city of Berlin, Federal Republic of Germany,” and likewise Daniel Ortega removed her from that position and on that occasion, the dictator placed Mohamed Mohamed Ferrara Lasthar, who is the nephew of the late Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi.

Ferrara Lasthar is a Nicaraguan nationalized Libyan citizen who serves as adviser and presidential delegate for Africa, the Middle East and Arab Countries; and ambassador to Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, the Tunisian Republic, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

To these diplomatic positions we should also add this new mission that the Ortega and Murillo dictatorship appointed him. The now ambassador to Turkey was sanctioned by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the United States Department of the Treasury on November 15, 2021 after the disputed presidential elections of that year.

The Ortega Murillo administration maintains a constant movement in the foreign service. They appoint and remove ambassadors almost every week. Many representatives last a very short time in office.

For a former Nicaraguan diplomat who asked to keep his identity confidential, in Nicaragua the Foreign Ministry, as the governing body of diplomacy, has been stripped of all authority by the dictators, who manage the diplomatic corps at will.

“Currently there is neither a Foreign Ministry nor a chancellor in Nicaragua, basically everything works from El Carmen,” criticizes the former diplomat, referring to the little or no authority that Foreign Minister Denis Moncada has, who on official trips is overshadowed and subordinated to his son of dictators, Laureano Ortega.
