The district of Íllimo, located in the province of Lambayeque, is one of the most affected areas as a result of the overflow of the La Leche River, a product of the intense rains that hit this northern part of the country.
Hundreds of illimamos, through social networks, report the serious situation they are going through and have been asking for urgent help from the authorities on duty.
In the videos it can be seen that the water level exceeds one meter in their homes, while in more rural areas there are isolated families.
It is also observed that the residents are forced to go up to the second level of their houses to avoid any tragedy, especially in minors and older adults.
“A total disgrace in the Íllimo district, this is the situation as far as the water gives us. The authorities, neither provincial, nor regional, nor congressmen have appeared to this day,” a local reporter is heard saying.
This dramatic situation is not unrelated in the Pátapo district, where rustic houses collapsed and the victims await support from the authorities.
THE LAMBAYEQUE REGION SUPPORTED 10 HOURS OF INTENSE RAINFALL
The Lambayeque region endured a 10-hour rain last Thursday, due to the presence of Cyclone Yaku on the northern coasts of the country. This phenomenon has generated heavy rainfall in the mountains, a worrying increase in the La Leche and Chancay rivers, and the activation of streams. In addition to flooding in various sectors of the capital Chiclayo, which does not have a storm drainage system.
The Provincial Municipality of Chiclayo has been evaluating the damage to homes and risks due to short circuits, while the Lambayeque Sanitation Services Provider Entity (Epsel) arranged machinery to clean some streets and avenues that have been flooded since last night. In different urbanizations, residents reported the power outage and the collapse of the drainage system.
In the last hours, the overflow of the La Leche river occurred, harming dozens of families in Las Juntas (Pacora), Íllimo and Montermoso (Mórrope). Victims are also reported in Olmos, Motupe, Jayanca, Pomalca, since the floods caused the collapse of several houses. According to the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN), the population centers affected by the rains are: La Calzada, San Juan, Magdalena, Tres Puentes B, La Cirila, Las Juntas, San Pedro de Sasape, Señor de Luren, Monteverde, Three Bridges A, San Isidro and Huaca Culpon Alto.
The Regional Education Management indicated that the start of school classes 2023 will be next Monday, March 20, to guarantee the safety of students and teachers. The Regional Government reported that each municipality must reach its damage report to receive help. (By: Melissa Romero)
