Cusco: PeruRail will suspend operations due to strikes and almost 1,500 tourists leave Aguas Calientes

The company reported that as of this Wednesday, January 4, it will suspend its operations until further notice due to the risks that strikes pose to its workers and passengers. This, added to the upcoming resumption of the strike, has caused a large number of tourists to abandon in the last hours.

The company, which provides train services on the southern and southeastern routes of the country, specified that it adopted this measure to “guarantee the safety and care” of its passengers and workers.

Through a statement, it explained that the suspended operations include all its trains on the Cusco – Machu Picchu – Cusco or Cusco – Puno – Cusco routes.

“The suspension of operations is given in compliance with the notification of the concessionary company of the railways, transandino railway, due to the indefinite resumption of protests in the cities of Cusco and Puno”, reported the railway company.

To this he added that they have already adopted other provisions to serve passengers today Tuesday.

“With the objective of transferring the passengers who are currently in the station of Today, Tuesday, January 3, we are proceeding to increase the number of spaces in different train frequencies. This relocation of passengers with purchased tickets will be carried out at no cost,” he said. PeruRail.

“We also inform that, unfortunately, in the coming days the security conditions are not guaranteed, which is why we will be unable to mobilize emergency trains for the evacuation of people on this route. We regret the inconvenience these announcements cause our passengers. However, they are due to situations totally beyond the control of our company and we reiterate that we seek to prioritize the safety of passengers and workers in the face of the resumption of social protests in the cities of Cusco and Puno,” the company announced.
