After several days of strong demonstrations, which left one person dead and at least fifty injured, calm gradually returned to Cusco, where operations at the Alejandro Velasco Astete airport resumed last Saturday.
Thus, thousands of locals and tourists came to the facilities of the Cusco air terminal, in order to board their flights, which were delayed or canceled due to the constant attempts to take over the airport.
This Saturday, starting at 4:00 a.m., the operations resumed at Velasco Astete, for the moment all the flights are confirmed and a strong police contingent guards the perimeter of the place.
As reported by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the doors of this airport reopened after midnight yesterday, but only for the entry of administrative staff and workers, passengers entered early this morning.
On the other hand, the doors of the main shops and shopping centers in the city reopened to boost the weak local economy.
In a statement, one of the main mal indicated that its workers could enter their premises from 06:00 a.m. today and that users could do so from 09:00 a.m. It is worth mentioning that these places are also monitored by the authorities.
FACT:
Despite the fact that the protests seem to have subsided in the Cusco region, the train operators on the route to Machu Picchu have not yet resolved to restart operations, they would be waiting for confirmation of the 100 percent release of the railway.
