Foreign Minister Francisco Bustillo criticized this Friday the current mechanism for the delivery of passports by calling it “imperfect” since he allowed that, as he understands, it was what allowed the narco Sebastián Marset could access a document at the beginning of this year.
“(The decree) allowed the Uruguayan citizen Marset to acquire freedom, acting in accordance with the legal framework,” Bustillo said.
At a press conference, the Minister of Foreign Affairs asserted that “there is no investigation” both in his portfolio and in the Interior; instead, both are working on the preparation of a decree that modifies this current regulationhe detailed.
Finally, the chancellor considered that this case does not affect “at all” the reputation of the State Uruguayan in the world. “If there is something that Uruguay has, it is a well-earned name internationally in all the areas that it has had to act and this is just one more of them,” she said.
Despite this, Colombian President Gustavo Petro singled out Marset for the murder of Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci. The investigation of that case “shows that drug trafficking ceased to be a Colombian-American bilateral problem long ago and It is today an American and world problem.”, said the new head of Colombia.
