HAVANA, Cuba.- The seventh edition of the sports reality show Exatlón Estados Unidos has two new champions. For the second time in the show’s history, a Cuban was the winner in the men’s category. His name is Yoridán Martínez, a native of the Havana municipality of Marianao and resident in the state of California, where he alternates occupations as a model, baseball player and fitness trainer.
In this installment All Stars Martínez defeated the Puerto Rican and champion of the fifth season, Jeyvier Cintrón, in a competition where he showed excellent physical shape and the unwavering will to lift the trophy to take home the $200,000 prize.
The Cuban, a member of the Contenders team, won two consecutive circuits, scoring a categorical victory over his opponent, who had been suffering from a knee injury for several weeks, but still decided to stay in the tournament.
Yoridán’s career in the reality show that began on September 26, 2022 was impeccable. After entering on October 10 as a replacement for the athlete Junior Díaz (low due to injury), the Cuban maintained an impressive performance that allowed him to overcome the first cut and win one of the four passes (two men and two women) to the second round of the competition, the All Stars, where athletes from previous seasons such as Chuy Almada, Denisse Novoa, Viviana Michel, Yamilet Peña, Elías Tirado, Alondra González, Kelvin Noé Rentería, Valeria Sofía (champion of the second season) and Jonny Magallón, among others.
After defeating the legend Chuy Almada in the semifinal, Yoridán arrived at the last date ready to “put a shot” and become the first man from the blue team to win the competition. In the sixth season, the Cuban and professional diver Briadam Herrera, a member of Team Famosos, had triumphed.
In the women’s division, the All Stars final was dressed in red with the clash between the Dominican gymnast Yamilet Peña and the Colombian star Caterine Ibargüen, Olympic and world triple jump champion, who honored the contest with her presence and left everything in the land. Her defeat against Yamilet took many fans by surprise, who gave her as her favorite to take home the trophy and $200,000.
