The Cuban Government thanked this Thursday Spain the donation of medicines and medical supplies in response to the serious fire of the last days in the industrial zone of Matanzas.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez expressed it in this way to the Spanish ambassador in Havana, Ángel Martín Peccis, in a bilateral meeting and later reflected on his Twitter profile.
“I was grateful for the shipment of medicines and medical supplies for the incident in Matanzas,” he wrote in relation to the shipment by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (Aecid) of more than 27 tons of aid worth 80,000 euros ( about $82,585).
The material will be delivered in two flights. The first shipment is expected to arrive in Cuba this Friday and the second will take place in two weeks.
Spain will send medical material to Cuba due to fire, via European cooperation
The shipment of the Aecid is part of the Team Europe initiative, of the Civil Protection and Humanitarian Action Mechanism of the European Union (EU), which coordinates the aid requested from the bloc together with the Member States and finances part of the transport of the humanitarian cargo shipped.
Spain responds with this operation to the appeal made by the Embassy of Cuba in Belgium and before the EU on August 6, in which the Cuban Government expressed the need for this type of shipment.
Rodríguez and Martín also addressed the political and economic relations between the two countries in their meeting, according to the Cuban foreign minister.
“We ratify the will to continue developing the bilateral political dialogue and the economic, commercial and cooperation ties between Cuba and Spain,” Rodríguez said on Twitter.
