Madrid Spain.- The young Cuban baseball player Yuxnel Gato left the island and arrived in the Dominican Republic in recent days, where he will try to sign with a Major League Baseball (MLB) team.
A native of Matanzas, at only 15 years old, Gato was among the best talents in Cuba at the time of his departure, I consider sports journalist Francys Romero when spreading the news.
The outfielder was one of the most outstanding athletes in the recently concluded National Championship 15-16, with an average of .390, 13 doubles and 4 home runs; seven excelling, above players who have participated in the last World Cups of the sub-12 and sub-15 category.
“It seems like it’s always the same news, but another prospect player left Cuba in recent days, but no,” said Romero, referring to the constant exodus of athletes on the island.
The reporter also pointed out that although this emigration is also constant at other ages, “in the lower categories there is a constant avalanche of departures.”
“The reason for this is not the failed MLB-Cuba agreement cited by the country’s official media, but the depressing economic and political situation, which qualifies as among the worst in the last 60 years,” he said.
Among the young players who have emigrated in recent months to the Dominican Republic are the Sancti Spiritus Luis Miguel Rivers, leader in runs scored in the National 15-16 of 2019; Pinar del Rio outfielder Crisptohfer Pérez, who joined the Cuba team in lower categories; the leader of the U15 national baseball team, Maykol Valdivia Brown; Yorelquis Hernández from Santiago and Danell Figueroa from Matanzas, who projected to be a talent as a catcher.
