5.3 magnitude earthquake shakes the early mornings of Mexico City

Mexico City recorded an earthquake of 5.3 on the Richter scale in the early hours of this Friday, August 12, at 03:17 local time, according to the National Seismological.

The earthquake originated 33 kilometers southeast of Huetamo, Michoacán.

The hour of the morning in which the earthquake occurred made it difficult for the inhabitants of the city to notice this movement.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador published a message on the social network Twitter after the earthquake:

The first information I received is that the seismic alert sounded; the epicenter was in Huetamo, Michoacán, but of low magnitude: 5.3. We will continue to report,” said the president.

The Mexico City government said there had been no material damage or injuries in the capital due to the quake.

The Secretary of Citizen Security, Omar García Harfuch, reported that after a flight of condor aircraft and the evaluation of the C5, no damage was observed.

“On the instruction of Claudia Sheinbaum, patrolling is increased in different neighborhoods to continue verifying,” he said later.
