The XXV edition of the Cubadisco International Fair It will take place in a hybrid format from May 14 to 22, after two years without being held in person due to COVID-19, according to official media on the Island.
Indira Fajardo, president of the Cuban Institute of Music (ICM), assured the Cuban News Agency (ACN) that the desire of the organizers is that the event can be “up to what Cuban musicians and artists deserve”, as well as all those who are involved in the realization of this event.

Cary Diez, vice president of Cubadisco, recalled that the event, in addition to recognizing the most relevant aspects of Cuban music, promotes exchange between professionals in the music industry and all the cultural institutions associated with this artistic manifestation on the Island.
This year, the exhibition fair will take place at “El Castillito”, located on 1st and 12th streets, in Vedado, with the permanent presence of musical companies that group more than 20,000 musicians in their catalogues, the source specifies.
In this space, the artistic and business proposals of Cuban record companies, which are also producers of phonograms and audiovisual materials, will be shown. These record companies, in the opinion of Cary Diez, have made a “significant contribution” to Cuban music with the productions that are being presented this year at Cubadisco.
In this sense, the directive mentioned that there are almost 250 participating productions, among them 181 discs with sound supports and audiovisual productions shared between live concerts, with the public and in studios, documentaries, as well as other works of great heritage importance, which show the development achieved by the Cuban music industry.
Diez also announced that, as has been the tradition in the event, the Cubadisco International Symposium will be held for five days, which will be held in the Abelardo Estorino theater-theater of the Ministry of Culture (Mincult).
The theoretical sessions will include lectures, conferences, panel discussions, workshops, master classes, album presentations, books, magazines and audiovisuals, and their sessions will be broadcast live, through the StreamingCuba digital platform, points out the ACN.
Meanwhile, the Clave channel of Cuban television will become the Cubadisco Channel again, between May 14 and 22, the media reports.
Cubadisco “democratizes” the nomination and selection process of its awards
The artistic programming will have a marked presence in the capital’s América and Nacional theaters, and among the scheduled presentations, the concert “Armstrong en La Habana” stands out, under the musical direction of Ernán López Nussa, one of the most successful musicians in the history of the Cubadisco.
In this presentation scheduled for May 19 in the capital’s Avellaneda hall, talented Cuban trumpeters will pay tribute to the American louis armstrong (1901-1971), with a varied repertoire, “a kind of New Orleans carnival again in Havana”, values the publication.
In addition, on the 20th and on the same stage, Cuban musicians will take a tour of contemporary North American piano music, while at the Teatro América, venue for the record company galas, there will be a tribute concert to trumpeter Chico O’Farrill, with the presentation of unpublished arrangements by this musician born on the Island.
For its part, the concert music will arrive at the Minor Basilica of San Francisco de Asís, with the interpretation of Cuban classics by groups such as the Camerata Romeu and other ensembles that have been awarded in past editions of the event.
The text adds that the concerts of the flutist Niurka González together with the pianist Marcos Madrigal, and that of the Chamber Orchestra of Havana, directed by the teacher Daiana García, will also give prestige to the Cuban record festival. In turn, the Entrevoces choir, under the direction of the experienced Digna Guerra, will perform at the Church of Paula.
The artistic direction of many of the cultural shows will be carried out by Alexis Vásquez and Efraín Sabá, while Orlando Cruzata will direct the Cubadisco 2022 awards gala on May 14.
