The inflation year-on-year it rose 23.69% in Cuba in April, according to figures from the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI), cited by press reports.
The increase in the consumer price index (CPI) compared to March was 3.54%, according to official data revealed by the agency EFEwhich specifies that these data “do not include the (greater) fluctuations experienced by the extended informal market on the Island.”
Accumulated inflation so far this year stands at 6.57%, when at the same point in 2021 it was at 52.79%, according to official estimates.
By categories, Recreation and culture rose 63.54% in year-on-year terms in April, followed by Food and non-alcoholic beverages (39.06%), Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (22.89%) and Restaurants and hotels (21.56 %), refers EFE.
The agency specifies that all categories experienced price increases, but the increases in some were moderate, such as Communications (0.05%) and Health (0.32%).

With respect to the prices based on the ONEI, of 2010, the items that have increased the most are Transportation, Food and non-alcoholic beverages and Housing services, adds the notorious office.
High inflation has been a constant in the last two years on the Island, especially since the implementation of the so-called Monetary Orderwhich meant an increase in salaries and pensions, the elimination of the convertible peso (CUC) and the devaluation of the Cuban peso (CUP) against international currencies.
The impact of the pandemic, the tightening of US sanctions and the failures and inefficiencies of economic policies have exacerbated the shortage of some basic products and have contributed to the increase in prices on the Island.
According to official figures, cited by EFEInflation in regulated trade was around 70% in 2021 as a whole, although some estimates put that in the informal market at around 500%.
