Cuba will be represented by 58 athletes in the first Caribbean Games

Cuba will be represented by 58 athletes in the I Caribbean Gameswhich will be held in Guadeloupe between June 29 and July 3 next, according to official sources.

Director of High Performance National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (Inder)José Antonio Miranda, reported that the organizers increased the quotas in swimming before the closing of the inscriptions, and granted six more quotas to the Cuban federation, according to an office from the agency Latin Press (PL).

As explained by the director, there will now be 11 swimmers in the Cuban delegation, which had already announced the five selected after the initial distribution, adds the information.

Miranda added that among the “strategic objectives” of participating in the fair of Caribbean will be the evaluation of the sports reserve, as well as identifying possible new figures with the possibility of competing in the Olympic Games of Paris 2024.

They remain as members of the delegation 19 representatives of athletics (12 women and seven men), four men from 3×3 basketball, eight cyclists (three and five), 10 members of the men’s futsal team, and six judo exponents (three and three).

The ages of those registered in the new multi-sport event are between 15 and 23 years old, and in the case of basketball and football, the events called will have a sub-23 category.

Outstanding in the group are 25 athletes who competed in the I Junior Pan American Games, held last year in the Colombian city of Cali, who won five gold, three silver and three bronze medals, added Miranda.

In total, Cuba will participate in 60 of the 67 events called, including 33 swimming and 14 athletics, and will only have no competitor in the netballa team sport similar to basketball.
