OnCubaNews

Cuba welcomed this Friday the decision of the Government of Brazilheaded by Luis Inácio Lula da Silva, to reincorporate the nation into the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac).

The Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez, expressed his support for the Brazilian president on Twitter and appreciated his importance in a regional context that demands more integration, according to a report from the agency Latin Press (PL).

“Latin America and the Caribbean can and must continue consolidating its unity in diversity, as an essential condition for our essential integration,” he stated in his account.

This Thursday the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the “full and immediate” return of the South American country to all political and technical levels of the organization.

According to a message also posted on Twitter, the event occurred after an invitation from Alberto Fernández, President of Argentina, for Lula to participate in the organization’s VII Summit, to be held in Buenos Aires on January 24.

Argentina exercises the interim presidency Celac, which brings together 34 countries.

The message adds that Brazil’s return to CELAC is an essential step towards rebuilding the country’s diplomatic heritage and its full reintegration into the international community.

Brazil will resume the “More Doctors” program canceled by Bolsonaro

Brazil was one of the States participating in the creation of the body, formally constituted in February 2010 during the Unity Summit in Cancun.

Three years ago, Jair Bolsonaro decided to remove Brazil from Celac, considering that the organization “gave prominence to totalitarian regimes.”

In addition, the then president canceled Brazil’s participation in the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) to join the Forum for the Progress of South America (Prosur).
