Biden to focus on fentanyl in talks with AMLO and Trudeau

When asked about specific steps the United States would like Mexico to take to stop the production and smuggling of fentanyl, Kirby said he did not want to get ahead of the summit. “They’re going to talk a lot about this,” he said.

The recent arrest of drug kingpin Ovidio Guzmán “is not an insignificant achievement by the Mexican authorities,” Kirby said.

“It’s not that we haven’t had some success. I mean 20,000 pounds is a lot,” he said, referring to the amount of drugs that US customs authorities have seized since last August. “But (the drug) keeps coming,” he added.

Joe Biden will land on January 8 at the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) during his visit to Mexico.

US President Joe Biden said Wednesday that he plans to visit his country’s border with Mexico during an upcoming trip currently being arranged.

Biden will travel to Mexico City for a visit, where he will meet with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Immigration will be one of the priorities on the meeting agenda.

On December 28, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador asked his counterpart Joe Biden “out of friendship” and “diplomacy” to land at the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) during his visit to Mexico to participate in the X Summit of Leaders of North America.

“It is not a matter of logistics, it is a political matter, President Biden may not know this, but I am taking the opportunity to tell him that out of friendship and diplomacy we ask that his plane land at the General Felipe Ángeles Airport, because imagine our adversaries ”, he recommended to his counterpart.

This is the first visit that Biden will have to Mexico since he assumed the presidency of the United States in January 2021.
