Cuba was selected to host the Pan American Table Tennis Championship, an event that will be held in September 2023.
During the assembly of the Pan American Table Tennis Confederation in Santiago de Chile, the Cuban proposal was supported with the unanimous vote of the attendees.
“After the 62nd Caribbean Championship, held at the PABEXPO facilities; Cuba showed a high level of organization and infrastructure that the Cuban Table Tennis Federation can provide, with the support of various organizations for first-level events,” said the Cuban Federation.
In the competition, only Eday Gómez was able to advance to the round of 16 of the men’s individual event after the non-presentation of the Mexican Darío Arce. In the phase of the 16 best, the Brazilian Hugo Calderano (number six in the world ranking) was measured.
The experienced Jorge Moisés Campos fell three sets to four against Eugene Wang (CAN). Liván Martínez, despite having won the first three sets, fell to Marcos Madrid (MEX).
In the women’s doubles, Idalys Lovet and Daniela Fonseca were among the semifinalists, a phase in which they will face the Americans Amy Wang and Rachel Sung. In the quarterfinals, their rivals did not show up, the locals Paulina Vega and Daniela Ortega.
