MIAMI, United States.- An opening in the national electricity system has caused a total blackout in Cuba, according to various official media outlets on their social networks.
According to the information, offered from several provinces of the country, at the edge of 6:00 pm on Tuesday, September 27, several provinces on the island were left without electricity, and “work is being done to gradually restore the service.”
The national blackout was confirmed after 8 p.m. this Tuesday by the Electric Union of Cuba in Twitter.
“The SEN with 0 electricity generation (without electricity service in the country), a condition associated with weather effects. The fault is given in the western, central and eastern links, it will be gradually restored between tonight and early tomorrow morning, ”says the publication.
According to the radio station CMKX Radio Bayamo, there is “zero electricity generation in Cuba” at the moment, just a few hours after Hurricane Ian left the north coast of the province of Pinar del Ríoleaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
From Villa Clara, the radio station CMHW also reported the national blackout, and said that the authorities of the Electric Company of the territory had confirmed that 100% of the circuits in the province were disconnected.
The Newspaper Venceremos, from Guantánamo, published a note on its Facebook profile tonight with the following information: “At this time there is a breakdown in the National Electroenergetic System, they confirm to us from the Technical Directorate of the Guantánamo Electric Company. The circuits of the province are turned off, similar to what happens in other provinces of the country, as verified by user publications on social networks. So far the causes are unknown, they are investigated to work immediately on their solution.
Cubadebate replicated the information on the national blackout, and said that “the fault is given in the western, central and eastern links”, however, “it is a complex process that must be worked with precision to restore it. This complicated condition is also associated with the complex weather conditions that have affected the SEN infrastructure.”
“At the moment, work is being done continuously on the reconnection of the system, the work will be extended during the night of today, Tuesday, and the morning of tomorrow, Wednesday,” the text adds.
It also adds that in the western part of the country, there are a group of transmission lines out of service.
