The Port of Taino Bay reported that the grounding of the Norwegian Cruise Escape in front of the Bay of Puerto Planta.
So far, the competent authorities are collaborating with the crew to tow the boat and to continue its course according to the navigation program.
“There is no report of people at risk, or of damage to the cruise ship,” says the port administration in a statement.
The activities are being coordinated by specialists from the Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM) and the Shipping Agency to carry out the necessary work with the tugboats that are on site and that have arrived minutes after the grounding.
The Civil Defense, the Navy, the Ministry of Tourism, the Governor’s Office and the Mayor’s Office have also arrived at the scene of the events.
The cruise ship left the Taino Bay Port at 5:00 p.m. bound for St. Tomas and approximately 10 minutes later, it ran aground outside our facilities.
The Norwegian Escape arrived in Puerto Dominicano at 09:41 a.m. today with 4,841 people on board, 1,618 crew members and 3,223 visitors.
So far, the causes that caused the grounding and its consequences are unknown.
