Cruise activity returns to the capital of Cuba

Emblematic spaces of the city such as the Morro-Cabaña Military Historical Park, Bodeguita del Medio and Finca Vigía were among the sites marked for the enjoyment of visitors, since their arrival in the Cuban port the day before.

According to the TUI Group website, the company to which the Marella Explorer 2 belongs, travelers would also arrive on excursions to the Viñales valley, in the western province of Pinar del Río, and the iconic Tropicana cabaret in the capital.

Under the name of Flavors of the Caribbean, the itinerary brought people of various nationalities to Cuba from Montego Bay, Jamaica, on a boat intended for adults only, which provides spa services, a club-casino, bars and restaurants.

From the Facebook profile of Transtur, a company dedicated to tourism transportation in the largest of the Antilles, the entity welcomed the arrival of the cruise ship and considered its arrival in the capital as the beginning of the revival of this modality in this city.

Last December the cities of Santiago de Cuba and Cienfuegos received the World Voyager, from the shipping company Nicko Cruises, from Germany, with which the main ports of the island were opened for foreign visitors.

The Caribbean nation is working to recover the tourism sector, which in 2021 welcomed more than half a million international travelers, a figure that represents 39.8 percent of those who arrived in the country in 2020 and is equivalent to 869,181 fewer tourists, despite of a slight recovery experienced since mid-November.

The cruise segment could contribute to this recovery, although this modality was severely affected by the unilateral coercive measures of the US government headed by Donald Trump.
