Court annuls suspension of functions of the district manager of Cabarete

Tribunal deja sin efecto suspensión funciones encargado distrital Cabarete

Santiago.-The Criminal Chamber of the Judicial District of Puerto Plata annulled the suspension from office of the current director of the Cabarete district board, Freddy Zarzuela Cruz.

Judge José Antonio Núñez also declared null and void the process that is being followed, in response to the decision of the members who two weeks ago suspended Zarzuela Cruz.

More than 50 mayors from different parts of the country and dozens of citizens who expressed their support for the mayor of Cabarete were present at the hearing.

On February 13, the Civil and Commercial Chamber of the Court of First Instance of Puerto Plata ordered the suspension of Freddy Zarzuela Cruz, who was accused by the foreign businessman Michel Gay-Crosier of violating the Law of Free Access to Public Information (Law 200-04).

Subsequently, on February 28, the members of the Cabarete District Board during a session approved suspending Zarzuela Cruz to comply with article 44 of the Municipal Organization Law (Law 176-07), which provides for the suspension of their tasks to elected municipal officials who are involved in criminal proceedings for the commission of infractions.

In the trial on the merits of said case, Zarzuela Cruz was defended by the Puerto Plata jurists Pedro Balbuena, Danilo Reyes Marmolejos, Cándido Gómez and José Morales, who demonstrated before the aforementioned court the presumed innocence of their client in the face of the accusation that was made against him. .
