The Municipality of Montevideo delivered last week to the Departmental Board the balance of the management of the year 2021 and the budget for the year 2023, together with the strategic objectives. The proposal, he added at that time, is to generate a “reconversion of the systems of bands and aliquots for the real estate contribution.” In this framework, the mayor of the commune, Carolina Cosse, referred to the initiative on Monday.
In the year 2023, 2.71% of the padrones (about 12 thousand), corresponding to the higher bands, with market values of 500 thousand dollars and above, will have a proportional increase in their contribution, while by 2024 it will benefit owners of the first two tranches of the contribution, who will pay less.
“An increase of a small percentage will be applied to those properties that are worth more than US$500,000,” said the mayor. Who also added: “The plan is that with what is collected from there allocate it to improvements in Montevideo and also a part to allocate it to all (property) that are worth less than US $ 500,000, that at the end of the period can pay less contribution ” .
“It is an act of tax justice and it is an act that has a positive spillover for Montevideo,” said Cosse.
The communal chief stated that what is collected with this increase “is also going to be used for the work of the administration, for things that we still need to do.” «We still need to work hard helping the neighbors in the repair of the sidewalks, that is an issue. Everything is money, repair streets, there are sanitation repairs, the ABC plan », she listed.
