Cuba exceeded one hundred daily cases of Covid-19 this Saturday for the first time in more than two months, after the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) confirmed 114 new infections. The last time that the island’s health authorities registered more than 100 new positives in one day was on May 14, when they reported 103 infected.
The rise in cases corresponds to the alert that the MINSAP launched ten days ago due to the circulation in the country of the BA.5 subvariant of the omicron variant of the virus. However, the agency itself ensures that control of the disease is maintained due to the high rates of vaccination with its own formula, which reaches around 98% of the “vaccinable” population.
In this scenario, the number of positives in Cuba amounts to one million 107 thousand 311 since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, although with good indicators of recovered patients (99.2%).
