Construction generated 10,000 more jobs in 2021

The gross domestic product (GDP) of construction grew by 29% in the third quarter of 2021 and there was an increase of 10,000 jobs in the sector, reported the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

“The population employed in the construction activity in the urban area of ​​Bolivia reached 377 thousand people in November 2021, a figure higher than the 367 thousand registered in the previous month”, highlighted the INE.

On the other hand, in 11 months the area authorized for residential and non-residential constructions, in capital cities and main conurbations, presented an accumulated variation of 35.7%.

Production grew by 15.1% and the sale of this product by 22.4%.

The government highlighted that thanks to public investment last year, works were reactivated and debts to construction companies were paid.

According to the INE, the greater dynamism of the construction activity is also manifested in the demand for imported materials. Purchases reached 40.9 million dollars.

The products with the highest demand were: construction bars, corrugated iron, angles and profiles of iron or unalloyed steel and porcelain tiles, tiles for cladding. Purchases of finished and semi-finished products reached 15.3 and 25.5 million dollars.
