Congress: the questions against the Board of Directors 3 weeks after its swearing-in

Three weeks have passed since the parliamentarians elected the members of the new Board of Directors of the Congress for the period 2022-2023. with 70 votes of support, the winning table is chaired by the Congressman for Alliance for Progress, Lady Camones. At his side are Martha Moyano (Popular Force), Digna Calle (Podemos) and Alejandro Muñante (Popular Renovation), who took office after the resignation of Wilmar Elera.

Despite the short time that has passed since his swearing in, the questions -which have even ended in the resignation of one of its members- have not been long in coming.

Wilmar Elera, third vice president, is sentenced for aggravated collusion

The Second Office of the Provincial Corporate Prosecutor’s Office Specialized in Corruption Crimes of Officials of Piura announced its ruling against the congressman Wilmar Elera (We are Peru)in which he is sentenced to six years in prison for the crime of aggravated collusion.

After that, the parliamentarian decided to submit his resignation to the third vice-presidency of Congress, after only one week in office.

Subsequently, on Thursday, August 11, the judge of the Seventh Unipersonal Criminal Court Specialized in Corruption Crimes of Officials of Piura, Ronald Soto Cortez, ordered the location and capture of Elera García after being found guilty for his performance as supervisor of the work “Improvement and expansion of the drinking water and sewage system of Pacaipampa” in 2012.

Thus, the Congress proceeded with the election of the new vice president who would occupy the position left by Elera. The legislators who appeared were Hilda Portero (Popular Action), Janet Rivas (Free Peru), Katy Ugarte (Teaching Bloc) and Alejandro Muñante (Popular Renovation), the latter being the winner in the second round.

Appointment of the new head of the Editorial Fund of the Congress

The former congresswoman People’s Force Milagros Takayama was appointed as the new head of the Editorial Fund of the Congress after the responsibility of said institution passed into the hands of the first vice-presidency of Parliament, that is, the Fujimorist Martha Moyano.

It should be noted that the Editorial Fund was in charge of the third vice-presidency; however, when the Board of Directors changed, it was decided to transfer it to Moyano Delgado’s office.

Takayama was the legal person of Fuerza Popular in the last elections in which its leader, Keiko Fujimori, lost in the second round and denounced an alleged electoral fraud. Likewise, she was a parliamentarian for the same political group from July 2016 to September 2019, when former President Martín Vizcarra dissolved Parliament.
