The Congress of the Republic approved in a second vote the opinion so that April 22 of each year be declared as the Day of the Fight against Terrorism.
The vote this Thursday, September 22, concluded with 78 in favor, 8 against and 18 abstentions after the text was supported by the president of the Defense Commission, Diego Bazán (Avanza País).
Among those who voted against are members of the Magisterial Bloc, members of the Democratic Change – Together for Peru caucus, and Susel Paredes of Integrity and Development.
Those who voted in abstention were mostly members of Peru Libre, the Magisterial Bloc, and other legislators from other groups such as Héctor Acuña and Flor Pablo, from Integrity and Development.
The first vote in favor of this opinion was in the month of July, with José Williams, current head of Parliament, as president of the Defense Commission.
The rule specifies that on April 22 of each year, the Ministry of Education will order the necessary actions so that activities are carried out in public and private educational institutions on the occasion of commemorating the recognition and reminder of the effort and sacrifice of the Armed Forces and the National Police, as well as the Peruvian people as a whole, in their permanent fight against terrorism.
