Various institutions condemned the statements made by the third vice president of Congress, Wilmar Elera (We are Peru)regarding the complaint of rape against parliamentarian Freddy Díaz (not grouped).
Through a statement, Congress said it rejected all types of violence against women and regretted Elera’s expressions, for which it urged him to offer public apologies.
“We regret the expressions of our third vice president of the Board of Directors expressed in the media, and we urge him to offer public apologies to the countryon the statements made regarding the case of Congressman Freddy Diaz Monago”, reads the statement.
For its part, the Ombudsman considered that what was said by the member of the Legislative Board of Directors “seeks to justify the act of rape based on stereotypes and discrimination against women”.
In its networks, the constitutional entity urged the representatives of Congress to eliminate all kinds of justification and tolerance of gender violence, in addition to ending the re-victimization of affected people.
Next, the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations asserted, on her Twitter account, that being the only woman in a group or having consumed alcohol, “does not justify any form of violence against women, let alone sexual violence”.

In her turn, Congresswoman Norma Yarrow (Avanza País) spoke out against what his colleague said and asked him to resign from his position within the Board of Directors of Parliament.
“Mr. Elera, I am ashamed to see you on the Board of Directors. In other words, the young lady is to blame for being raped by a depraved congressman, for working, according to you, in a space where there are only men. His words offend all Peruvian women, he should step aside“, held.
This Sunday, Congressman Wilmar Elera She referred to the complaint of rape against Freddy Díaz and said that there was an environment conducive to the commission of said crime, since she was the only woman who worked in an area where the rest of her colleagues were men.

“As I have been able to find out, I think the lady is the only woman who works in the all-male space, which has created a much more conducive environment, especially when they start drinking liquor”, he stated in an interview with TV Peru.

Elera spoke after her reprehensible expressions on TV Peru about the complaint of a Parliamentary worker against Congressman Freddy Díaz for rape.
“If I have offended someone I apologize, I am not a person who wants to fix a rapist […] Maybe I expressed myself badly, I apologize for the case. Congressman Díaz must bear the full weight of the law”, Elera told El Comercio.
