In September this year, Rio de Janeiro will host the 5th edition of Hacking.Rio. The event is self-titled the biggest hackathon of Latin America, a type of competition that brings together computer programmers to try to solve proposed challenges.
In this year’s edition, which takes place from September 1st to 4th, Hacking.Rio will try to find solutions to challenges related to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Registration is open until August 10th and can be done through the site from Hacking.Rio.
“Our first edition of Hacking.Rio was in 2018, with ‘good hackers’, developers, programmers, designers, for us to develop an innovative solution to a real problem of society, of the market. In this 5th edition, the challenges are related to the 17 UN SDGs”, explains the founder of Hacking.Rio, Lindalia Junqueira.
Teams, mentors, educational institutions and communities can participate tech from Brazil and abroad.
hybrid format
This year, for the first time since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, Hacking.Rio will be held in a hybrid format, with in-person and online participation. The teams will have 42 hours to present their solutions to the proposed challenges.
The winners will receive the maximum prize of R$ 25 thousand. Second and third place winners will receive prizes of R$15,000 and R$10,000, respectively.
