Within the framework of Women’s Day, the National Superintendence of Labor Inspection (sunafil) reported that companies can be fined up to S/ 241,638 if they make differences in the payment of wages between their workers, just for being male or female, when both perform the same tasks in a work center.
Likewise, the supervisory body recalled that wage discrimination based on the sex of the workers is a very serious offense.
He indicated that in 2021 alone, 168 inspections have been carried out on companies that would have discriminated against their workers with remuneration. Of that total, 158 correspond to complaints. As a result, 71 inspections ended in infraction acts, which are in the sanctioning administrative process.

The economic activities most frequently audited were: manufacturing industries (46 companies), electricity and gas supply (21 companies) and financial intermediation (11 companies).
Likewise, the regions with the most inspections for this concept were: Metropolitan Lima (44), Lambayeque (23), La Libertad (17), among others.

Sunafil mentioned that every employer has the power to establish their remuneration policies, but must set the requirements to determine the amounts of their remuneration, without incurring in direct or indirect discrimination based on sex.
Likewise, companies must have a table of categories and functions, which must contain the jobs included in the categories, the characteristics of the jobs and the order or hierarchy of the categories, based on their evaluation and the necessity of the economic activity to which the company is dedicated.
