After several hours of discussions, the authorities of the Emberá Wounaan Comarca, with the mediation of the Ministry of Government (Mingob), headed by the Secretary General, Cristóbal Tuñón, decided by consensus to reaffirm the dates of next April 7 and 8 for hold their congress where they will choose their new traditional authorities.
Blas Chamorro, Secretary of the Nokoras, described as positive the final definition of a date to renew all the traditional authorities, a fact that becomes important, considering that the region has not chosen its new authorities for several years.
“The dates having been defined, we are now waiting, as agreed at the Ministry of Government with Secretary Tuñón, for the official announcement in the next few hours that the Congress will take place in the community of Lajas Blancas, for which the regional communities are already prepared”, said Chamorro.
The original leader stressed that there is a great atmosphere in the region to participate massively in the electoral process, and the people have in their hands a historic decision to choose those traditional authorities to represent them.
“We have the trust and support of the people, and we are going to move forward for the future of our Emberá Wounaan nation, it is time for a change and we trust in the wisdom of our people and in the legacy of our ancestors that we will have elections that will mark a positive milestone for our region”, concluded Chamorro.
