A commission of prosecutors is investigating the death of Police Sergeant Walter Huayhua, who died on Friday from gunshot wounds to his humanity during an anti-drug operation. The main indication of the Public Ministry is the identity of the Colombian citizen who also died in the Noel Kempff Mercado Park. The Government reported that the investigation is in reserve and prefers not to reveal the identity of the alleged drug trafficker.

“Dr. Mejía is in charge of this investigation, they have transferred elements dependent on the fight against crime and the fight against drug trafficking to have a multidisciplinary team to carry out the investigation. We already have a person who has lost his life and we have his identity, and from there, we are going to carry out an investigation and we are going to find out in a few days who would be involved in these criminal organizations ”, informed the Minister of Government, Eduardo From the Castle.

On December 13, a patrol from the GIOE-GER group made up of 10 police officers infiltrated the reserved area located in San Ignacio de Velasco, to carry out drug-trafficking interdiction, patrol and search operations. Three days later, on December 16, while on patrol, at approximately 10:00 a.m., they were ambushed by people carrying firearms, who fired at the Felcn troops.

Sergeant Huayhua died on the way from this operation, as did a Colombian citizen of whom nothing is known.

Yesterday Del Castillo, when highlighting the fight against drug trafficking in his administration, said that in Bolivia the lives of policemen are mourned and not drug traffickers, as in Colombia.

“From this side of the world, in Bolivia we are sad, we are in mourning days because we have lost a hero. That is not happening in other parts of the world, in Colombia, unfortunately, they are mourning the life of a drug trafficker,” Del Castillo said in an interview with state media.

The minister made this comparison following the death of Sergeant Walter Huayhua, who was promoted and buried with high police honors.

“Walter, where are you? Come out son, please. He has promised me that he would take care of me until death, now where is he? These were the words of Huayhua’s mother, who did not stop shedding tears during the tribute paid at the National Police Academy (Anapol).

Family members denounced that the police officer who was shot five times was not wearing a bulletproof vest during the anti-drug operation.

Del Castillo denied this point and said that all the personnel have the necessary supplies for this type of high-risk task.

“This information is untrue, to carry out any operation framed within the current legal regulations and the internal procedures of the Felcn it is impossible that within an operations plan there is not the corresponding and/or sufficient equipment for a cash to move in a place where there is probably a crossfire,” said the minister.
