Colombia indicted five people who were part of a network dedicated to the illegal exploitation of mining deposits and other materials, damage to natural resources, environmental contamination due to exploitation of mining deposits, and aggravated criminal conspiracy.
For being part of a criminal network linked to the illegal large-scale exploitation of coal on the Colombian-Venezuelan border, five subjects were captured and prosecuted in Colombia.
The government of that country explained that the organization obtained the mineral in two complexes located in the village of 20 de Julio in the village of 20 de Julio, in El Zulia, in the North Department of Santander. Those involved did not have a mining title, an environmental license or legal permits to operate in the tunnel modality.

According to the investigation by the Colombian authorities, who managed to arrest two of the ringleaders and a former police officer involved, the network began operating in October 2020 and each mine had an administrator and their respective payroll, the Public Ministry reported in a press release published in your website.
Likewise, two companies were established to give the appearance of legality to coal and market it nationwide. There was also a group of transporters that was in charge of moving the mineral to any region of the country and some public servants that would have favored criminal activity.
For these events, five of the members of the network were captured, among them the presumed leaders and facilitators, identified as Ángel Gabriel Ramírez Cuesta and José María Jiménez Sánchez.
A prosecutor from the Specialized Directorate for Crimes against Natural Resources and the Environment charged these five people with the crimes of illegal exploitation of mining deposits and other materials, damage to natural resources, environmental contamination due to exploitation of mining deposits, and conspiracy to aggravated crime.
