The Colombian Association of Public Health, expressed concern about the records of the Ministry of Health of minors who died as a result of the covid-19 pandemic.
The director of the entity, Dionne Cruz, stated that although the numbers of infections and victims have decreased, it is very sad to note that a high percentage of the deceased are minors.
“In reports of deaths from Covid-19 from yesterday and today, 7 people are registered, 3 are girls-o, one of 4 in Valledupar, a boy of the same age in Maicao and a little girl of 3 in Mitú. Tragedy that must be investigated immediately and remedy the causes that led to these losses“, he claimed.

He stressed that after these reports it is necessary to prioritize vaccination against covid-19 in minors.
“We want to make a call to the local authorities so that vaccination of minors against covid-19 is prioritized and it is guaranteed that they have access to the vaccines of the National Immunization Plan,” he indicated.
He stated that the figures for minors age deceased in this month of April continue to grow.
“In this month of April we reported 18 deaths of children under 20 years of age, that should set off our alarms,” he said.
He added that although the National Vaccination Plan covers 68% Of the Colombian population with a complete scheme, there is a vulnerable population such as children.
“It is necessary to investigate why these children are dying, if they were vaccinated, if for them the health system has responded efficiently, especially in regions such as Valledupar, Maicao and Mitú where we must be on alert“, Held.

He said that the Ministry of Health You have to evaluate the environment of these children such as nutrition, family protection to make their rights prevail over others.
