Colombia plans to buy gas from Venezuela

The incoming Minister of Mines and Energy, Irene Vélez, stated that if her country’s gas reserves were insufficient, they plan to resort to supplies from Venezuela, which ranks eighth in proven reserves of that hydrocarbon in the world, she reported. RT news.

In an interview with Blu Radio, Vélez spoke of the “great challenge” that it represents for the Administration of Gustavo Petro to fulfill the commitment of the “energy transition”, which seeks a “gradual de-escalation of the extractivist model.”

Along these lines, the incoming president showed that they will not continue with the two ‘fracking’ pilot projects in the municipality of Puerto Wilches, in the department of Santander, whose environmental license was revoked by a judge last April until there was a consultation with Afro communities in the area.

Venezuelan gas

According to the Minister of Mines and Energy, her country has gas reserves for seven or eight years, so if it were necessary to fill the energy matrix, “the gas transport connection could be made with Venezuela”, which includes this year increase the production of hydrocarbons and gas.

“If it were the case that our reserves were not enough for our self-sufficiency, we need solutions, which could be to connect with other countries,” he added.
