Colombia delivered 1 million protection documents to Venezuelans

Colombia has already delivered 1 million documents of the Temporary Protection Statute (PPT) to Venezuelan migrants residing in the country. This was announced this Wednesday by President Iván Duque in a brief statement.

The goal of one million documents was reached one year after it was started this migration initiative for the 1.8 million Venezuelans residing in the country, according to the latest figure reported by Migración Colombia.

In addition, according to the Colombian president, there are about 800,000 migrants who already have biometric recognition and who are currently filling out the PPT document.

On the other hand, the director of Colombia Migration, Juan Francisco Espinosa, pointed out that “this is one of the most important milestones in Colombian migration policy.”

According to figures from Espinosa, the identification initiative for Venezuelan migrants has coverage in the 1,000 municipalities of the country. Among the documents delivered, 53% represent women heads of households and 29% children in school.
