The Union will set up a tent in the center of Melo.
Due to the conflict situation in COLEME, the National Plenary of the Federation of Dairy Industry Workers, meeting at the beginning of this week in Montevideo, defined a series of mobilizations for the coming days.
In a public statement, the FTIL categorically rejects “this barrage of anti-union actions and restructuring that the business sectors apply in this period of transition of the National Administration”, expressing solidarity with the workers who are going through these situations.
The support is also ratified “for the colleagues of the Union of Workers and Employees of COLEME (UOEC) and the Fray Bentos Single Food Union (SUAFB).
Among the measures and actions resolved by the Federation is the holding of an assembly with a strike in COLEME, an event that will take place tomorrow, Friday, January 17, in the capital of the department of Cerro Largo.
At the same time, the installation of a tent in defense of the jobs of COLEME workers in the center of the city of Melo is announced.
In the month of February, a march (mobilization) will be held as the Federation of Dairy Industry Workers (FTIL) starting from Melo to reach the capital of the country where another tent will be set up in front of the Executive Tower, headquarters of the National Government.
In the communication, the union also announces the creation of flyers and dissemination of information in central spaces and at the carnival in both Montevideo and Melo.
The support and movement against anti-union actions and in defense of jobs in the COLEME cooperative will be presented to the Representative Table of the PIT CNT.
The request for meetings with the authorities of the incoming Government is also among the actions to be taken in the coming days. In a meeting with the designated Minister of Labor and Social Security – Juan Castillo – all the issues “that concern and occupy” at the level of the country’s Dairy Industry will be raised.
Finally, the FTIL Plenary ratified the extension agreed upon in the Salary Councils regarding the 2.45% adjustment in January, establishing that on April 1, 2025 the negotiation of the new Salary Council Round will begin to establish future adjustments. starting July 1 of this year.
