Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Center (COE) increased the number of provinces on alert to 11, due to the downpours that will be caused by an active tropical wave and a trough at high altitude.
According to Onamet, both meteorological systems will continue to cause moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms and gusts of wind.
The provinces on green alert are Greater Santo Domingo, Maria Trinidad Sanchez, San Pedro de Macoris, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, La Altagracia, La Romana, Duarte, Sanchez Ramirez, Samana and Monte Plata.
Onamet indicated that tomorrow Friday, Although the axis of the active tropical wave will be over the eastern part of Cuba, there will be enough humidity and instability in the air mass for cloudy conditions to return from early morning accompanied by moderate to heavy showers, thunderstorms and gusts of wind, mainly towards the Caribbean coast, the eastern part and the northeast, while in the afternoon and early evening, they will occur towards inland provinces, located in the northwest, northeast, as well as the Central Mountain Range and the border area.
Onamet also reported that it is monitoring a large disorganized area of showers and thunderstorms associated with an active tropical wave located over Puerto Rico. This system has a 10% probability of cyclone formation in the next 48 hours and a 60% probability in the next 7 days.
However, regardless of its development, we expect it to generate significant rainfall accumulations in different provinces of the national territory.
