SANTO DOMINGO. The Dominican Council of Evangelical Unity (CODUE) described this Wednesday as “worrying and unacceptable” the situation produced in the Villa Mella sector, Santo Domingo Norte municipality, where a shooting in a grocery store has brought dozens of families into mourning and caused fear. among residents.
As well as the incident that occurred in La Ureña de Santo Domingo Este, where last Friday Pastor Samuel Núñez Cruz, of the Pentecostal Evangelical Church, was shot to death and two more people were injured when they were returning home after having been in a Christian activity. The deceased was aboard a car with six other people, including three girls.
Pastor Feliciano Lacen said that many of these situations are due to a certain extent to the fact that governments have maintained an accumulated debt with the groups in terms of education, health, housing, work, service infrastructure, transportation, and citizen security; Therefore, the authorities must implement public and private policies, as well as initiatives of community and non-governmental organizations, in the promotion of resilience, social situations that primarily affect Dominican families.
The president of the ecclesiastical entity, maintained that on several occasions President Luis Abinader has raised his voice before the population that the issue of citizen security is a priority of his current administration; Therefore, the state control agencies must be activated with greater force, in order to maintain, in every sense of the word, social order and compliance with the law as punishment for those who break it.
“We cannot continue allowing groups to take away our peace and peaceful coexistence to the point that productive work in the area of Villa Mella has to come to a standstill, as has happened since Monday; Therefore, the authorities must work more on citizen security, prevention and to prevent situations of this nature from continuing to occur. We must leave discourse behind and move from theory to practice, comply with and enforce the law by controlling crime with strict adherence and unrestricted respect for human rights”, added Lacen Custodio.
Pastor Lacen called on the entire faith community to continue working for peaceful coexistence and to remain united in permanent prayer for our nation.
