Government authorities met this Tuesday with some senators to discuss the fuel price crisis. In this sense, the parliamentarians made a series of recommendations to be included in the Fuel Stabilization Fund project.
At the end of the meeting, the head of Petropar, Denis Lichi, confirmed that the state entity will maintain its prices throughout the month of March and April.
Likewise, he said that it is “very feasible” to include gasoline in the Fuel Stabilization Fund project, since at first it was said that the coverage only covers Diesel Type III, because all cargo trucks and transport in general move with this type of fuel.
It should be noted that the fund does not intend to leave a fixed price, but to cushion temporary increases. If oil continues to trend upward, subsidy compensation should accompany that rise.
The Fuel Stabilization Fund will be financed with a CAF loan that was already committed for this 2022, to cover the General Budget of the Nation.
For his part, the Vice Minister of Economy, Iván Haas, mentioned that it was a “quite productive” meeting and that they will analyze the proposals made by the senators to include them in the project and send the draft as soon as possible.
Haas ruled out the elimination of the excise tax, as he indicated that the current percentage is quite low. In addition, he mentioned that the senators discussed the possibility of Petropar being the sole importer of type III diesel and retaking the role of regulator.
