Cifar: Pharmaceutical market grew by 12% in the first quarter of 2022

Cifar estimates that in 2022 the market will grow 19% with a projected distribution of 190 million medicines, compared to 159 million in 2021, which would stop “the decline of a market that fell 75% from 2014 to 2019”

According to data provided by the Chamber of the Pharmaceutical Industry (Cifar), the sector has grown by 12.8% compared to the same period in 2021.

According to the agency, during the first three months of 2022, 37.67 million medicines were placed on the market, 4.28 million more than in the same period of the previous year, when 33.39 million medicines were distributed in pharmacies. .

This was announced on Monday by the president of the organization, Tito López, who indicated that half of the medicines distributed in the country are produced locally and the other half are imported.

López pointed out that the figures show that last January 14.99 million units were placed in authorized establishments, in February 11.33 million and in March also 11.33 million.

“If it weren’t for January, we would have decreased this first quarter. In January we didn’t have the tax on large transactions, which we do have now. In addition, in the last week of January and the first week of February, there was an increase in imports of finished products,” López explained.

The most recent survey of the situation prepared by the Confederation of Industrialists of Venezuela (Conindustria), which was presented on May 11, shows that the pharmaceutical sector currently operates at 29% of its installed capacity.

Cifar estimates that in 2022 the market will grow 19% with a projected distribution of 190 million medicines, compared to 159 million in 2021, which would stop “the decline of a market that fell 75% from 2014 to 2019” .

“We are not going to grow more because of the still low purchasing power and other factors that are not in favor of the market, apart from the fact that we do not have financial leverage,” López added.
