In the midst of the struggle in the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) for spaces of power in the Cabinet, the Choquehuanquista wing came to the fore in defense of Vice President David Choquehuanca and attacked the “boss” (Evo Morales), while the former president Jeanine Añez put Eduardo del Castillo in trouble, the minister most questioned by sectors of the blue party.
Freddy Bobaryn, Deputy Minister of Government Coordination and Management, published the article The Hubris Syndrome and the Struggle for Power in the state-run newspaper Ahora El Pueblo, in which, among other details, he talks about how “the environment, which theoretically justified the indispensability of the presence of the ‘boss’ as the only guarantee of unity in the country, was wrong”.
He also points out that in the MAS, as happened during Stalinism, there were internal purges and persecutions that sought to “depose” Choquehuanca, for fear that he could displace Morales. For this reason – he adds in the article published on January 16 – systematic attacks continue to be orchestrated today in search of discrediting “who is the main ideologue and key piece in the construction of the philosophy of Living Well.”
The Añez manuscript
After sectors of the MAS called for the dismissal of the Minister of Government, Eduardo del Castillo, who dismissed the now former Vice Minister Nelson Cox from his position for hiring the adviser who worked with the family of Arturo Murillo, former President Añez yesterday released a message from prison letter in which he realizes that he is one of the few people who can understand Del Castillo’s “double standards”.
The former head of state maintained that when she was president he wrote to her and recognized her as the first president, in addition that when she served as senator she had a close and “preferential” treatment with her. Del Castillo, through his Twitter account, indicated: “Mrs. Añez, who apparently seeks to attract attention with apocryphal letters, should prepare to answer about her relationship with the president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, who confirmed meetings with her , in addition to explaining why the presidential plane had constant trips to the neighboring country without authorization.
Carolina Ribera, daughter of Añez, replied, also through her Twitter account, and pointed out that when Del Castillo was a senior adviser “he opened the door of the Hemicycle” to Añez the day he assumed the presidency.
Del Castillo counterattacked with a video that is supposedly a record of the night of November 12, 2019. “No one is going to tell me how they usurped power through a coup d’état, proclaiming themselves president with tanks, police fences and vigilante groups,” he tweeted.
the failed meeting
On Monday, President Luis Arce was scheduled to meet with the so-called Unity Pact. However, the appointment was postponed without a date and the organizations chose to call Arce and Choquehuanca to a meeting today, without the presence of ministers.
“Through a statement yesterday (Monday), the deputy minister put us in a note postponing the meeting until further notice, and calling only the heads of the five confederations to see a possible upcoming meeting with President Lucho. For us it is a mockery. That has bothered us and rather we have decided not to attend the possible meeting that the Government calls us, but rather to call the president and vice president to a meeting,” said Omar Ramírez, leader of the Csutcb.
That sector observes, according to the leader, the lack of coordination between the Cabinet and the organizations, which became evident in the steps back that the Executive had to take, such as in the now abrogated Law 1386 or the way of acting around the decree 4641 on the implementation of the covid card, whose entry into force is postponed.
The MAS sectors also observe the hiring of personnel who worked during the transition government. On Monday, the Pact of Unity demanded the immediate dismissal of Del Castillo for “being an infiltrated pita minister of the right.”
