The Investigative Police (PDI) joined, with its police attache, the investigation into the disappearance of the Chilean missionary identified as Esteban Zambrano Leiva, 32, who was kidnapped by an unknown person in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, around 2:00 p.m., when Zambrano -who performs humanitarian services with families and children- arrived at his home with his 6-year-old daughter. The kidnappers appeared there, who took the man and put him in a vehicle, letting the minor return to her house.
According to 24 hours, the Chilean’s wife, Carolina da Silva, pointed out that Zambrano was threatened with firearms. Through a telephone contact, the antisocials asked for 100 thousand dollars to free him.
From the PDI, the prefect Catalina Barría Becerra, national head of International Cooperation, stated that “we learned through our police attaché in Haiti of the kidnapping of a Chilean citizen that occurred yesterday, around 2:00 p.m., when he and his daughter arrived at his home. ”.
“Various steps have been taken to connect our police attaché with the special investigation headquarters and the Institute of Criminology to support his family in everything that has to do with the investigation of this crime,” the police added.
“Our police attache, together with the person in charge of the mission, have become part of this investigation by assisting the Haitian police and forming a working group to be able to find the expected result, which is the release of our Chilean citizen in Haiti,” hill.
