Chief of the General Joint Chiefs of Staff Paiva after an evaluation meeting on the State of Exception: «The Armed Forces. They have always been backed by the government.

The General of the Army and Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Guillermo Paiva, spoke after the meeting held with various government authorities as a result of the state of emergency in force in the southern part of the country, affirming that “the Armed Forces have always been backed by government”.

“According to what was stated by the respective interior and defense ministers, this meeting was a technical one where what has been done so far was evaluated and future actions are being planned,” he said. Regarding the contingent in the sector, she added that “it is enough for what is being planned so far.”

After being consulted about a possible extension to the state of exception, Paiva stated that “this is a political decision, we comply with what the Government decides. In this sense, I cannot make any assessment, no opinion. We only limit ourselves to complying with what be established at the political level.

On the other hand, the official of the military institution indicated that they are protected by the Executive. “The Armed Forces have always been backed by the Government,” he concluded.
