Chavismo commits to rebuild the 31 collapsed stilt houses in Zulia

Officials from the Ministry of Housing carried out the pertinent studies in the town, in order to determine what materials were required to rebuild the stilt houses and pathways with wooden and zinc boards.

The spokeswoman for the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Jacqueline Faría, reported that the government of Nicolás Maduro promised to rebuild the 31 stilt houses collapsed by the waves of Lake Maracaibo in the stilt houses of the Baralt municipality, Zulia state, during the September and October rains.

Faría visited the town, where he promised that the Chavista government would rebuild the 31 affected stilt houses and the roads, which currently affect 460 inhabitants who reside in the town.

“Although there were no human losses, the waves hit the houses and what is required for its construction is going to be brought,” said the PSUV spokeswoman.

Officials from the Ministry of Housing carried out the pertinent studies in the town, in order to determine what materials were required to rebuild the stilt houses and walkways with wooden and zinc boards.

In his social networks, Faría highlighted that they already attended to the affected population, not only with the analysis of the damage to the infrastructure, but also with first aid and food for the affected families.

“We provide comprehensive care to families that suffer the impact of heavy rains, from the town of Agua in the municipality of Baralt, Ceuta,” he posted on Instagram.

Neighbors of the community told the whistle that the collapse of the stilt houses occurred not only due to heavy rains and waves, but also due to the marked lack of maintenance and investment in the structures.

«They are years of lack of maintenance, we had requested support to reinforce the roads and houses, but we did not receive a response. We don’t want people to come and take pictures and say that they are going to help us, but for it to be something that materializes,” said one of the neighbors.

Ceuta and Tomoporo de Agua are at least one hour and 30 minutes from San Timoteo, the capital of Baralt, so they are geographically more remote areas and they claim that the food and medicine aid has been less.

“The people of Tomoporo de Agua have not received aid, only four bags, but there are more families affected. We need a solution, the authorities have to help us rebuild these areas that are historic in Zulia”, added Manuel Gómez, a resident of the area.
