Cese exportación de huevos creará problema excedente, dice Asohuevo

Cessation of egg exports will create a surplus problem, says Asohuevo

So that the producers are not affected, the Government should buy the eggs that will not be exported and sell them to the population at a lower price.

The ban on the export of eggs for 15 days towards Haiti will now cause a surplus of food in the country, so it is necessary that the Government find a way out for these so that the measure does not cause economic damage to the producing sector and continues to guarantee food safety.

According to Manuel Escaño, president of the National Association of Egg Producers (asohuevo), the justification of the Minister of Agriculture, Limber Cruzthat the measure is to avoid a local shortage, due to the increase in demand in the neighboring country, is an excuse, since 20% of the national production has always been exported to Haiti, which has been enough for its consumption .

“That is not what is behind the measure. 20% is about 1.6 million units of eggs.

The normal demand is the one that has been going out to Haiti,” he explained before the minister pointed out that there had been an over-demand, since the intermediaries have doubled the order from 400,000 to one million eggs.

He said that those eggs that will now not be sold in Haiti, the Government you will have to buy them from the producers so that a balance between supply and demand is maintained.

“It would be best if he Condition acquire that surplus of eggs that we are going to have and distribute it to the poor neighborhoods. It is that if they cause us to keep 50 million eggs, they have to buy them, with the money, because the government cannot be trusted, it does not pay ”, he pointed out.

He insisted that if he Government buy the eggs that will not be exported to Haiti, it would prevent the sector from “going headlong”, since it would be a tailored compensation.

Escaño pointed out that if producers are compensated, there could be a drop in the price of eggs.
The egg producer added that with the measure, announced last week by President Luis Abinader, the only egg export market in the country is cut off.

He recalled that the egg is a product that cannot be stored, so he understands that a decision must be made.

He said that it seems that the measure has also been taken under the pretext of lowering the price of eggs for consumers, but that this is not certain, due to the complexity of the marketing chain.

Escaño assured that producers will be impacted by a drop in prices for farm sales, this accompanied by the high prices that raw materials still maintain.
