Cerro Chato adapted its main pool for more public access

Cerro Chato

Office of Planning and Budget (OPP) and Treinta y Tres Municipality inaugurated the works carried out in the Salto de Agua park, located in Cerro Chato, with an investment of more than 1,500,000 pesos. These implied the readaptation of the largest pool, whose depth was reduced so that more users can access it.

“This project serves the community and tourism development,” said the general coordinator of Decentralization and Cohesion of the OPP, María de Lima.

The ceremony was also attended by the mayor of Treinta y Tres, Mario Silvera; the mayor of Cerro Chato, Elías Fuentes, and other departmental and local authorities.

The project required an investment of more than 1,500,000 pesos, which was financed with resources from the Incentive Fund for Municipal Management (FIGM).

De Lima explained the role of the OPP in strengthening the third level of government. Through this fund, municipalities throughout the country are supported to improve their management capacity and to enable them to fulfill their tasks.

The hierarch explained that these offices are expected to develop operational plans based on local needs and, based on them, execute the resources. The objective is to generate a change in each territory, she indicated. “Today we have about 40 million pesos in transfers to municipalities of Treinta y Tres,” she reported.

The main recreational area of Cerro Chato in the summer season is now more accessible

In the case of Cerro Chato, one of the works was the conditioning of the main pool of the Salto de Agua park, whose depth was 3.6 meters in its entirety, which led to its being in disuse and to the occurrence of Crowds in the smaller pools. Also, maintenance costs were high. After the intervention, the depth is progressive, from 1.2 meters to 2.6, and it can be used by more people, in better safety conditions and with less risk of accidents.

The pool also includes an accessible ramp and new access. The works included filling and cementing and the placement of filters, pumps and a drainage system. In addition, they installed lighting so that it can be used during the night.

The Salto de Agua park is the main place of recreation in Cerro Chato in the summer season, both for residents and for tourists from nearby cities. It has cabins, space for camping and two other pools. It is open every day and is free of charge.
