The construction sector has not stopped. Since the works resumed throughout the country, due to the elimination of mobility restrictions caused by covid-19, more and more constructions of all kinds are being carried out.
Reason why the inputs, despite the rise in the price that the builders assure, are produced in greater quantity.
According to the latest report from the National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane), in April this year the production of gray cement closed at 1,215.6 tons, 25% more than what was manufactured in the same month in 2019 (pre-pandemic period), in which the figure stood at 971 tons. In relation to 2021, it represents a growth of more than 7%.
On the other hand, in the period between January and April 2022, gray cement production reached 4,732.5 thousand tons, showing an increase of 4.9% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Likewise, in relation to the period May 2021 to April 2022, the production of gray cement reached 14,019.2 thousand tons, showing an increase of 6.0% compared to the same period of May 2020-April 2021.

Now, on gray cement shipments in April 2022, 1,089.2 thousand tons were distributed to the national market, which meant an increase of 9.9% compared to April 2019 when 991.1 thousand tons were shipped.
In the month of analysis, it in turn represented an increase of 3.7% compared to April 2021, where 1,050.8 tons of gray cement were distributed.
Compared to the year to date, Shipments to the domestic market accumulated 4,417.3 thousand tons, resulting in a positive variation of 2.5% compared to the January – April 2021 period.
These good results in the fourth month of the year are reflected above all by shipments that have been increasing. Of the total distributed, compared to the same month of 2021, the total result of gray cement shipments was mainly explained by the growth presented in the channel of concrete companies (15.6%) that added 3.0 percentage points to the total variation of 3.7%, since in builders and contractors, in addition to marketing, a decrease of -4.7% and -1.2 was reflected % respectively.
In line with the good results of concrete companies, by type of packaging in the fourth month of 2022, the increase in shipments to the channel of concrete companies (15.4%) contributed 9.7 percentage points to the positive variation of gray cement to bulk (12.2%). Likewise, the increase in packaged gray cement was mainly due to the other channel (19.3%), which added 0.6 percentage points to the variation of 0.1%.
Now, when comparing April with the results obtained in April 2019shipments of gray cement presented a three-year variation of 9.9%, this is explained by the growth presented in the marketing channel (8.7%), which added 4.8 percentage points.
And by distribution channel, these three-year results reflect growth in the other channel (59.7%), adding 6.7 percentage points to the variation of bulk gray cement (14.6%). For its part, the increase in shipments of packaged gray cement was mainly due to the marketing channel (9.0%), which added 7.1 percentage points to the variation of 7.8%.
Finally, the annual variation in April 2021 and April 2022 was due to the growth in shipments to the departments of Valle del Cauca (27.8%) and Antioquia (6.1%), together adding 3.3 percentage points. . Likewise, shipments of gray cement in bulk stand out in the departments of Valle del Cauca (44.9%) and Antioquia (10.0%).
In shipments of packaged gray cement they presented a variation of 0.1%, explained by the growth registered in the department of Valle del Cauca (22.4%), which added 1.9 percentage points.
ASPHALT MIX
In the last Dane report, in March 2022, the production of asphalt mix at the national level was 306,999 mt3, registering a 5.0% growth compared to February 2022. In addition, 307,655 mt3 of asphalt mixture were shipped to the national market, which represented an increase of 4.0% compared to the immediately previous month.. In this regard, Juan Daniel Oviedo, director of Dane, pointed out that “the department of Antioquia has been the one that has most demanded this mixture with 79,339 mt3”.
