CDMX IP projects an 83.1% increase in sales for national celebrations

On the occasion of the national celebrations of this 2022, revenues of 7,340 million pesos are estimated for Mexico City, which represent an increase of 83.1% compared to 2021, but 15.4% below 2019, reported the National Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism (Canaco) local.

According to the president of the Canaco of the capital of the country, José de Jesús Rodríguez Cárdenas, derived from the fact that the dates of September 15 and 16 are approaching, an analysis was carried out based on the main economic indicators and the national environment to calculate expected sales for goods and services.

The business leader from the capital pointed out that derived from the study, they identified that the results of this year would be indicating that they are getting closer to the income they had before the declaration of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He stated that since the official day of rest in September falls on a Friday, income in commerce, services and tourism will be favorably impacted because it will be a long weekend.

“It is contemplated that the traditional celebration will take place as in previous years with massive events in the Zócalo of the capital, in addition to parades, commemorative ceremonies, parties and celebrations between families,” said the president of the Canaco Mexico City.

José de Jesús Rodríguez estimated that more than 94,000 businesses will benefit, especially businesses such as groceries, food and beverages, travel agencies, nightclubs, bars and clubs, hotels, restaurants, and the sale of typical costumes, wines, and spirits.

“We hope that the health measures established by the Government of Mexico City will be followed, to prevent the spread of the virus,” he added.

The president of Canaco Mexico City pointed out that an occupancy rate of between 55 and 65 percent is expected for the hotel sector during the celebrations.

According to data from the Ministry of Tourism of the capital, in September 2021 there was a hotel occupancy of 36.54%, while in 2020 it was 15.30 percent.

It should be noted that September 2019, although it was a pre-pandemic year, was not the best in the occupancy indicator, since it reached 67.18%, the highest level was in 2018, with 71.54%, followed by 2017 with 70.13 percent.
